“Yama Hoko Junko” is the main event of Gion festival.
You can enjoy more Gion festival if you have a information about “Yamahoko Junko”

It is spectacle that 33 units of “Yama Hoko” is parading around the Kyoto-city.
Many tourists and local people are gathering in Kyoto-city to see this main event “Yama Hoko Junko”.

Today, I introduce the time schedule and route of the “Yama Hoko Junko”.


Time schedule of “Yama Hoko Junko” in Gion festival 2019

There are a total of 2 times of “Yama Hoko Junko”; Main float procession (Saki Matsuri Yamaboko Junko) and Second float procession (Ato Matsuri Yamaboko Junko).

Main float procession (Saki Matsuri Yamaboko Junko): 17/July (Wed)
Second float procession (Ato Matsuri Yamaboko Junko):24/July (Wed)

Both of “Saki Matsuri” and “Ato Matsuri” are main event.
However the more peole will come to see the floats' parade in Saki Matsuri than Ato Matsuri because of the number of unit.

In “Saki Matsuri”, there are totally 23 units are on parade, and “Ato-Matsuri”, there are totally 10 units are on parade.

Floats will go through the main area such as Shijo-Karasuma, Shijo-Kawaramachi, Kawaramachi-Oike, and Shinmachi-Oike.
But the route is different in each “Saki-Matsuri” and the “Ato- Matsuri”.

I recommend to you to decide the place to watch, and the floats to watch beforehand.

In addition, if you want to avoid congestion and watch calmly, you better buy the ticket for paid seating which is set up in “Oike street”.

The ticket for the seat is available at conveniecne stores and tourist information centers with 3130 yen (tax incl.) for both “Saki Matsuri” and “Ato Matsuri”.
